Ruya Coffee
You guys know we LOVE bringing furniture to one-day-only events like weddings, corporate parties, and fundraisers (it’s our bread and butter, after all), but every now and then someone comes along with a project that’s totally new and different for us, and it’s always SO EXCITING. Ruya was one of those new challenges. Ruya is a pop-up Turkish coffee shop started by Melissa Aydogan, a talented young women who won a 2018 People’s Liberty Globe Grant. That grant meant that for three months in the fall of 2018, their retail space was her blank canvas to create a place that honored the legacy of her Turkish immigrant parents. She reached out to us to furnish the space in a way that evoked the stunning coffee shops of Cappadocia, a city which is now very high on our travel bucket list.
The photos throughout have a few different shop set-ups shown in them. Because of the way our business works, many of our pieces she used to create her shop set up were already spoken for for various events in her three month time frame. It felt like we were there every few weeks to swap out some piece or other.
Above you’ll see the set up with our Rami and Carmen daybeds and a tufted leather chesterfield sofa. Below, it’s our Cher daybeds (there’s three matching pieces in the set, but one of them doesn’t make it into the photo below).
These spun chairs are made from super durable, super lightweight fiberglass, which makes them perennial favorites of ours.
We were excited that our 1970s bar, which we originally got for Rhinegeist’s anniversary party that year, got to make another outing in a very different setting.
Though Ruya’s time at the People’s Liberty Findlay Market space came to an end, you can still get their delicious coffee, pastries, and Maverick chocolate bars at pop ups throughout the city- places like Lululemon and Carabello’s Coffee, where we set up a mini Ruya space pictured below.
Want to learn more about Ruya? Follow them on Facebook or Instagram for up to date info on their pop ups!
Watch more of their story in the video below or in this video by the Turkish news (which is in Turkish, but includes a cute mini set up of our pieces). And last but not least, check out this article in CityBeat.
We hope you enjoyed this peak into a coffee haven! You can see more photos of our pieces out and about in the world on our Instagram.
